Atasi Kemiskinan, DKI Subsidi di Berbagai Bidang

City Subsidizes Various Fields to Overcome Poverty

Jakarta Governor, Basuki T Purnama acknowledged will continue to inject subsidy in various fields to Jakarta residents. It is deemed able to reduce poverty. The poverty rate is also related to the exchange rate against the dollar.

Poverty rate will inevitably increase. Surely it will trigger increase in value of the dollar

"Poverty rate will inevitably increase. Surely it will trigger increase in value of the dollar," said Basuki, at City Hall, Tuesday (7/19).

Several fields that will be subsidized are transportation, housing, education, health, as well as small and medium enterprises (UMKM). Those fields are deemed very influential on people's income.

Informal Sector Managed to Reduce Poverty Potential in Jakarta

"We'll subsidize the transportation. Considering transportation is one factor of poverty in a city, including housing, education, health, business place, and working place," he told.

He continued, not all residents recorded by Central Statistics Agency (BPS) are Jakarta people. A few people living in slums have no Jakarta ID card.

"So they (BPS) say poverty rate that is increasing is from the newcomer. Right now, all people like living in Jakarta," he stated.

As known, in March 2016, the poverty population in Jakarta is 384.40 thousand people or 3.75 percent. The rate is decreasing than the same period in March 2015, which is 398.92 thousand people or 3.93 percent.
